Do I get my choice of residency after completing a GMO tour?

No. You would be more likely to get your choice of training but you still have to apply for a PGY2 position through the JSGMESB.

Do I get my choice of specialty training in HPSP?

No. During internship, you must apply for a PGY2 position through the JSGMESB. Interns who are not selected for "straight through" training will go on to complete GMO tours.

General Medical Officer (GMO)

GMO's are the civilian counterpart to the general practitioner (GP). They have completed internship and are licensed. They are primary care physicians for operational units. When their unit deploys the GMO deploys too. GMO's make more money then interns or residents because they receive the ASP (Additional Special Pay) annual bonus.
